Learning outcomes

The course will offer an in-depth knowledge of private international law, useful both for forensic careers as well as for diplomatic career of for international organisations.

Course contents

Object and purpose of private international law.

Sources: Italian law no 218 of 1995, EU regulations, conventions of private international law and of uniform international law.

Jurisdiction. Recognition and execution of foreign decisions and acts. 

General questions of private international law. The plurality of methods. Knowledge of foreign law. Renvoi. Public policy. Overriding mandatory norms.

Succession and wills: regulation 650/2012.

Contractual obligations: regulation "Rome I".

Non contractual obligations and torts: regulation "Rome II".

Please note that Erasmus and exchange students are required to attend the lectures.
