Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student can critically read the sources and dicuss about African history and historiography. He can use a comprative perspective in the analysis of cultural and social issues.

Course contents

The course is formed by lectures, group discussions and individual presentations. The course will focus on: the  end of colonial empires, the decolonization process, panafricanism, the Horn of Africa, the crisis of the  African state, Africa and the international context

Students attending the classes, have to write a paper and will be evaluated also on the basis of group discussions and individual presentations in class.

Assessment methods

Students attending the class will be evaluated on the basis of their written work (50%) and the participation to seminars (50%).
Students not attending the classes will be evaluated through an oral exam.
