Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will have acquired in-depth knowledge about various aspects and problems regarding literary history. The student will have a sound knowledge of the individual authors and works, and will be able to evaluate the literary quality of the works that have been studied, analyzing the texts according to specific critical methodologies.

Course contents


Twentieth-century German literature: poetry

This course presents twentieth-century literature through the most important works of poetry, from a chronological perspective and in a European context. Particular attention is paid to the forms and traditions of German poetry.

The end of the Great War and the avant-garde movements

Exile poetry

The politicization of poetry since the end of the 1950s

Comic poetry and the comic traditions: Robert Gernhardt

After German unification: mainstream poetry. The years without poetry.

Assessment methods

The oral test consists in an oral interview which has the aim of evaluating the competence as well as the critical and methodological ability of the students.

Teaching tools

The course includes a cycle of conferences organised in collaboration with other colleagues of the School (Prof. Francesco Benozzo , Mirco Dondi, Elena Lamberti), involving invited guests from Italy and abroad. The program will be available when classes begin.
