29930 - Fundamentals of Industrial Chemistry

Academic Year 2015/2016

  • Teaching Mode: In-person learning (entirely or partially)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (cod. 0918)

Learning outcomes

The course is aimed at the description of the chemical process by means of simplified flow-sheets, at highlighting the role of the raw materials and building blocks in the chemical industry, at illustrating the rules for the development and management of industrial chemical reactions, starting for thernodynamic and kinetic aspects, safety considerations and economical constraints.

Course contents

Thermodynamic and kinetic principles. Raw materials in the chemical industry. Scheme of reaction in complex reactions. Classes of industrial reactions: oxidations, hydrogenations and dehydrogenations, acid-type processes: thermodynamic aspects, catalysts, reactors, safety issue and selectivity control.
