Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student knows the chemical processes related to the interaction artefact-environment and the materials and products used for restoration and maintenance interventions, taking into account their suitability (reversibility, effectiveness, compatibility, not hazardousness). Futhermore, he knows the current technical regulations.

Course contents

·        Micro and macro environmental factors that cause degradation of the cultural heritage materials
·        Evaluation of the conservation state of the artefacts of historic-artistic interest
·        Products and techniques for restoration, maintenance and conservation of artefacts made of stone, ceramic, glass, metal, organic materials (ivory, wood, paper, tissue) and mosaics, wall paintings, oil paintings
­·        Scientific methods for the control of the restorations treatments
