73287 - Design of Water Sanitation and Treatment Plants M

Academic Year 2014/2015

  • Docente: Maurizio Mancini
  • Credits: 6
  • SSD: ICAR/03
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: In-person learning (entirely or partially)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Environmental Engineering (cod. 0939)

Learning outcomes

To present and explain technical knowledgments about executive planning, management and design of wastewater treatment plants.

To illustrate principles and facilities involved in water quality control and remediation of water volumes according with existing italian laws.

Course contents

The first part of the course analyzes executive projects of full scale wastewater treatment plants based on the following phases: active sludge with pre-denitrification by internal carbon, submerged aerated biofiltering systems, oxidization by pure oxygen and by high efficiency air mixers, MBR phases, anerobic sludge digestion, aerobic composting of sludge and urban waste organic fraction.

The second part of the course analyzes executive projects of the following full scale wastewater post-treatment and finishing phases: natural lagoon systems, FWS phytotreatment, onsite SFS phytotreatment systems, odour mitigation tecniques and odour emissions removal by attached biomasses filtering systems

Teaching methods

°  The course provides surveys and teaching visits in treatment plants and reclamation sites.

°  Room lessons are coupled with single assistance in analyzing an existing treatment plant project

°  During tha course students analize and discuss an executive  project of a wastewater treatment plant provided of tertiary treatment and finishing phases

Assessment methods

Examination is oral.

Teaching tools

Each student receives:

a) slides and projected files used during room lessons

b) executive projects about the design of an urban wastewater treatment plant.

c) an harvest of existing technical laws, in Italy, about outfall regulation, treatment and reuse of wastewater
