Learning outcomes

Aim of the course is to provide the knowledge of main topics of the modern art history from XZVI to XVIII century through the deepening of facts and periods of particular significance. At the end of the course the student will be able to proceed with the historic and philologic research about the art objects, the investigation of artistis and their paths in the period taken into consideration, the knoeledge of phenomena and insitutions of western European art in the same period.

Course contents

The course will be devoted the the Europe and the New World. From the discovery of America to the discovery of freedom. Topics: discovery through imges - Representation of native people and representation of nature - An infinite country - The fourth part of the world - Enlightenment : American Libertas - The noble savage - American paintings - Loss of Eldorado

Teaching methods

Lectures will be accompanied by visits to churches, museums and an educational travel

Assessment methods

The final test will consist in an interview about the topics covered in the course and the texts listed in bibliography. Since aim of the course is accostum the student to the direct visual examination of the work of art, it is necessary that he/she proceed to know as many works as possible, by means of the visits that will be organized during the course or provided by him/herself
