Course contents
The course is aimed at gaining in audiovisual translation, in particular in subtitling, through the analysis of audiovisual texts of different kinds, in particular films, documentary films, serials and documentaries. In this way students will widen their knowledge about Russian culture.
Readings/Bibliography
Texts and bibliography will be provided during the lessons.
Teaching methods
The course includes several exercises aiming at the development of: interpretation and semantic analysis skills (source text paraphrasing), the ability of using Russian language tools and carrying out revision and correction of the target text.
Assessment methods
Subtitling of a part of a documentary to be done at home and discussed with the teacher.
Teaching tools
During the course research tools usually used for the translation process will be practiced , such as bilingual and monolingual dictionaries , including specialized ones , encyclopedias on-line and the Internet.
The software "Subtitle workshop" will be used in classroom and at home.
