40062 - Predictive Maintenance for Electrical Infrastructures M

Academic Year 2014/2015

  • Teaching Mode: In-person learning (entirely or partially)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Electrical Energy Engineering (cod. 8611)

Learning outcomes

The course shall present: a) methods to plan maintenance, with an emphasis on condition-based maintenance, b) techniques for bulk and local degradation of insulation systems diagnosis, c) the use of fuzzy in the diagnosis of electrical insulation systems, d) failure mode and condition assessment for high and medium voltage cables, motors, generators, high voltage transformers.

Course contents

1. Maintenance guidelines, 2. Physics of partial discharge phenomena and associated degradation processes, 3. Diagnostics: general methods, use of partial discharge detection and analysis (in AC and DC), fuzzy logic. 4. Methods to asses the condition of high and medium voltage cables, rotating machines, high voltage transformers

Readings/Bibliography

Slides and notes provided by the teacher

Teaching methods

Teaching will be carried out in the classroom as well as in the lab, through practical experiences

Assessment methods

Oral exam

Teaching tools

Part of the course will be carried out in the lab. This will involve the use of high voltage test cells, partial discharge detectors as well as systems for polarization/depolarization current measurements.
