Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to deal with the ethics approach to the financial market in all its aspects: banking and financial management. At the end of the course the student is able: to know the risks and the peculiarities which the financial activity must face with regards to ethics; to have a general knowledge of the literature dealing with the ethical behavior of the banker and of the trader; to analyze the ethical challenges which the modern society must face with regards to the financial relationships.

Course contents

What is ethics?

Business ethics: definitions, reasons to face these issues, historical evolution, benefits from ethical behaviors

Ethics in listed companies and their behavior towards stakeholders

- Corporate social responsibility

- Corporate governance

- Illegal practices (Insider trading and Market manipulation)

Investor ethics:

- Socially responsible funds

- Impact investing: Microfinance, Social impact bonds, Venture philanthropy, Crowdfunding

- Islamic finance

Assessment methods

Valuation is based on a written exam and the final mark is expressed in thirties.

The structure of the exam is composed of 14 multiple choices (maximum 14 points) and 2 open-ended questions (maximum 16 points).

The exam lasts 1 hour.
