Academic Year 2014/2015

  • Docente: Pier Luigi Ribani
  • Credits: 6
  • SSD: ING-IND/33
  • Language: Italian
  • Moduli: Davide Fabiani (Modulo 1) Pier Luigi Ribani (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: In-person learning (entirely or partially) (Modulo 1); In-person learning (entirely or partially) (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Civil Engineering (cod. 0919)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will be able to solve d.c. and a.c. single-phase and three-phase electric circuits. He will know the characteristics of the main electrical machines and of the transmission/distribution power system and of the safety equipment and regulations.

Course contents

Preliminary notions on the theory of alternating current circuits and three-phase systems. General information on electrical systems. Distribution systems. Protection equipment and main components of a plant. Current effects on the human body. Safety curves. Contacts and masses. The earth and its functions. TT, TN and IT. PELV, SELV and FELV systems. Electrical installations in buildings and construction sites. Phenomenology of lightning and lightning protection systems. The legislative basis of the security.

Readings/Bibliography

A lecture note made by the professor is at disposal of the student, as well as the power point presentations of the lessons.

Assessment methods

A written test to verify the preliminary knowledge of circuit theory and an oral test. The written test consists in the solution of an a.c. circuit of single-phase or three-phase type. During the test no book can be examined; a scientific calculator is needed.
