Learning outcomes

Students are able to understand key concepts in political science in a comparative perspective.

Course contents

Key concepts analyzed include: methodology, democratic and non democratic regimes, political institutions, dynamics of representation and participation, electoral systems, democracy beyond the nation-state.
A focus on democratization processes is provided in the final part of the course

Assessment methods

An intermediate assessment will consist of a written exam with 5 multiple choice questions (2 points each) and 5 open questions (4 points each) for attending students. The same format applies for the final assessment, on the second part of the course. 
The 20 students obtaining the best marks in the first intermediate exam, can present their essays in class. Essays must be sent to the Course's tutor and will be assessed as second and final part of the exam.
Non-attending students will have to write only the final exam, on the entire programme.
