Learning outcomes
The student knows the general principles of radiation protection . The Law 187/2000 , the Law 230/95 and 241/2000 , dose reduction in all radiological diagnostics , the personal dosimetry , the LDR , quality checks on the equipment . The student demonstrates knowledge of radiation protection of the environment and the management of radioactive waste in addition to radiation protection and radiological monitoring and operator of population. Learns the fundamentals of oncological diseases : diagnosis and treatment .
Course contents
The radioprotection operational quantities. The principles of justification and optimization in the protection of workers and the public. The Italian legislation on the protection of workers and the public ( Legislative Decree no. 230/95 , 241/00 and 257/01 ) with particular reference to the physical surveillance of radiation protection in hospitals. Classification of areas and workers . The levels of the maximum permissible dose Application of the methods for the reduction of the dose in a hospital environment : In Diagnostic Radiology Radiotherapy In Nuclear Medicine Health Physics The personal dosimetry : analysis of different types of dosimeters used for the evaluation of the dose- effective for external irradiation Principle of justification of practices . Principle of optimization of protection in Diagnostic Radiology and Radiotherapy . Dose reduction . Risk depending on the stage of pregnancy and absorbed dose . Radiation-induced defects , leukemia and cancer . Radiation protection of the pregnant patient in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine . Breastfeeding and radiation protection of the child in Nuclear Medicine . Abortion and risks not associated with radiation .
