Learning outcomes

Aim of the course is to improve the clinical and practical skill of the student in the management of the diagnostic and therapeutics aspects of the equine cases hospitalized in the Animal Teaching Hospital, focusing on internal medicine and clinicopathology.

Course contents

During the course, the student has to manage and follow directly the equine clinical cases hospitalized in the Animal Teaching Hospital.
The course is oriented towards a clinical/practical approach, performed exclusively "on the field". Therefore there are no frontal lectures, but the teaching/learning activities are performed directly on the patient, with the students organized in small groups with a tutor.

Readings/Bibliography

Recommended readings are the same as those recommended for the course "Patologia e Clinica Medica e Chirurgica del cavallo (C.I)". Indeed this course is a practical part integrated with the abovementioned course.

Teaching methods

On a daily basis, before starting the clinical activity, in a dedicated briefing room, is held a meeting focused on the discussion between teachers and students of the clinical cases of the previous days. Students are encouraged to discuss each case he/she is managing with the dedicated tutor in each moment.

Assessment methods

Modalities of the exam are the same of those of the integratetd course (C.I.). Students are required to write the complete record of a clinical case chosen among those managed during their training. The case may be discussed during the examination.

Teaching tools

Structures dedicated to the clinical activity are opened to the students 24/24 hours for 365 days per year. Students are divided in groups with the aim to follow adequatelly the hospitalized patients. Students have all the time a tutor to whom ask questions and explanations. Students can use all the diagnostic and non diagnostic tools of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital: computer, diaphanoscopes, atlas, ultrasound machines, otoscopes etc...
