28345 - Statistical Methods of Quality Control (Advanced Course)

Academic Year 2014/2015

  • Teaching Mode: In-person learning (entirely or partially)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in STATISTICS, ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS (cod. 8056)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student knows the statistical methods for designing and realizing quality improvement activities. In particular, the student is able to design factorial experiments and propose appropriate solutions for process development and improvement.

Course contents

Quality improvement using the design of experiments: general framework

Experiments with a single factor

The analysis of variance in the fixed effects model. Statistical analysis and parameters estimation. Model adequacy checking. Regression model. The random effects model (variance components). Statistical analysis and components estimation.

Randomized complete block design

 Factorial Designs
Experiments with two fixed factors. Analysis of variance and regression model. The complete randomized design.

Assessment methods

The assessment aims to evaluate the achievement of the following learning objectives:

  • the knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the design and analysis of experiments
  • the ability to design factorial experiments for process development and improvement.

The exam is written and the evaluation is expressed as a grade of out of 30
