Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to carry out problems connected to design, installation and operation of plants for the treatment of polluted streams and solid wastes.

Course contents

1. Treatment of gaseous streams : particulate matter control ( gravity settling chambers, cyclones, electrostatic precipitators, fabric filters, particulate scrubbers), gaseous components control ( condensation, absoption, adsorption, inciniration, other reactive systems).
2. Treatment of polluted civil streams : typical line for the treatment of  civil wastewater.
3. Solid waste disposal and reuse : inciniration, sanitary landfilling , differential collection.

Readings/Bibliography

1. Lectures notes by the teacher
2. C.D. Cooper, F.C. Alley " Air Pollution - A design approach " PWS Publishers ( Boston )
3. Metcalf&Eddy " Wastewater Engineering : Treatment, disposal, reuse ", McGaw-Hill

Teaching methods

Great attention will be devoted to the physical principles governing the apparatus behaviour and to the obtainable performances. Environmental and safety problems arising in steady and unsteady conditions will be strongly stressed.

Assessment methods

The final exame is oral
