Course contents

It consists of a study of urbanism and architecture of Ostia and the topography of its former territory, including the archaeological area of Portus, the port of Rome, through the joint analyses of historical and epigraphic sources and specific archaeological documentation.

The course aims to highlight the link from archaic to late antiquity between the coastal settlement and the capital and will discuss its fundamental role in Rome's military and commercial infrastructure in an organic and unitary context.
