Course contents
Forty hours will be focused on the analysis of the main concepts of modern political thought in their different articulations: authority, natural law, political subject, power, contract, State, sovereignty, representation, public sphere, rights, civil society, constitution, democracy, dialectic. Twenty hours will be focused on a close reading of one classical work in modern political thought (Niccolò Machiavelli's Il principe) and to the feminist critique of modern political discourse.
Optional seminars will be organized, too. The aim of the seminars is that of providing to the students a support, particularly in order to read and understand the texts of the main authors of the history of political doctrines.Readings/Bibliography

Teaching methods
The course consists in frontal lessons and it is articulated into two sections. The first one aims at furnishing the conceptual instruments and the proper lexicon of the history of modern political thought, while the second one introduces students to a direct understanding of a classical text in history of political thought, and of a system of radical critique of modernity.

Oral examination focused on the contents of the course and the texts, that will take place in the dates established during the year.
