Course contents
Language varieties and the differentiation of communicative
resources in the social network and in speakers. Principles,
methods, case studies.
This course is for students who wish to integrate their knowledge
of language by examining the sociolinguistic aspects of language
seen as a set of language varieties rather than as an abstract
structure or in its literary form, focusing on how speakers
actually use it. The course centres on the diverse linguistic
resources of communities and the norms governing their use in
communicative situations, depending on social background, age
and gender. The wide range of linguistic behaviours is strictly
interconnected with the functioning and organization of languages
contrary to what has been traditionally held.
