Introduction to Philosophy of Language.

I'll present and discuss views of language by: Plato, the Stoics, Augustin, Aquinas, Ockham, Descartes, Hobbes, Vico, Humboldt, Frege, Russell, Husserl, Wittgenstein 1921, Heidegger, Wittgenstein 1949, Austin, Quine, Grice, Davidson, Donnellan, Putnam, Kripke, Kaplan, contextualists, minimalists. 

Readings/Bibliography

Plato, Cratilus, and texts proposed in class.

Teaching methods

Reading texts, critical presentation and discussion.

Assessment methods

The exam requires answering five open questions, maximum length 2k text for each answer.  The question will be put on line at http://www-utenti.dsc.unibo.it/~paolo.leonardi/ 10 days before the colloquia and the answer have to be sent me by email (paolo.leonardi ::at:: unibo.it) 4 days before the date indicated for colloquia, which will be on the answers themselves.
