Learning outcomes
Students will learn the basic translation tools and methods (micro and macro restructuration, editing and revision) and apply them to different kinds of simple and complex texts.
Course contents
Content passive part
The course aims to develop expertise in translating pragmatic texts
in an instructive modality (manuals) and texts of corporate
communications with the media and the public (press releases).
Individual exercises will be carried out continuously, corrected
promptly by the teacher. In particular, we will work on how to
avoid unwanted interference and language calches. There will be a
final exam.
Active contents part
The course aims to work on translation strategies on current
semi-specialized texts drawn from print media. Different text types
will be treated. Importance will be given to the analysis of
differing syntactic structures between Italian and German and the
handling of idioms. In particular, we apply a functional approach
to translation with specific translation assignments compared to
simulations.
Ongoing tests will be made with individual assessment and a final
test.
