Course contents
The program will study, with deepenings and comparisons, themes, problems, events typical of the political, institutional, religious and cultural history of Emilia and Romagna, from Rimini to Piacenza during centuries between 1000 and 1500. Particularly, attention will be about history of towns as example and connection with teaching of "urban civilization". In fact, the strong urban expression is the most important aspect in central and ending medieval centuries in our region. Practically the course of study will last thirty hours. Some starting hours will dedicate to presentation, with practical examples, of the chief sources and studies by means of which was possible to write general history of Emilia and Romagna in the examined period.
Readings/Bibliography
A. VASINA, L'area emiliana e romagnola, in "Storia d'Italia diretta da G. Galasso", vol. seventh, tome first (entitled Comuni e signorie nell'Italia nordorientale e centrale: Veneto, Emilia-Romagna e Toscana). Torino, UTET, 1987, pp. 361-559 to which will be dedicated maxim part of lessons. I remember this fundamental essay is (was) to be found as: A. VASINA, Comuni e signorie in Emilia e in Romagna. Dal secolo XI al secolo XV, Torino, UTET, 1986.
Some lessons, at the start of the course, will be dedicated to the presentation, with practical examples, of main sources and studies by means of which was possible to write general history of our region in the indicated period. This is, in Vasina's text, between pages 181 and 201; then the teacher will add many bibliographical adjournments made between 1986 and today.
The students who don't attend lessons must add the reading, as their choice, of one of following books:
V. FUMAGALLI, Matilde di Canossa. Potenza e solitudine di una donna nel Medioevo, Bologna, Il Mulino, 1986.
M. SASSI, Castelli in Romagna. L'incastellamento fra X e XII secolo nelle province romagnole e nel Montefeltro, Cesena, Società Editrice "Il Ponte Vecchio", 2005.
The teacher invites all the students to attend laboratories or seminarial activities compatible and useful with the teaching.
