Abstract
Osteosarcoma is the main primary bone malignant entity affecting young adults. Tumour Engineering is a promising strategy dealing with the development of innovative 3D biomimetic materials that allow to create in vitro tumour models to improve the reliability of the basic research and to better predict the drug candidates behaviour in vivo. The absence of predictive in vitro models, that better recapitulate the tumour complexity, carry into the centre of scientific interest the challenge to create advanced models to better elucidate several biological events and to discover more efficient therapies. Main goals must be achieved: -Design and reproduction of chemical, biomechanical and nanostructural characteristics for the development of tumor niche-specific scaffolds. -Bio-decoration of the scaffolds. -In vitro validation of specific co-cultures systems on bio-competent scaffolds. In vivo proof of concept to assess the tumorigenicity potential of the proposed 3D system.
