From research to society
A new targeted drug that can recognise and attack cancer cells
Successfully tested in animal models, a new-generation drug has achieved complete disease regression in models of neuroblastoma and rhabdomyosarcoma, as well as colon cancer. The key lies in antibody–drug conjugates, which can recognise tumour cells and target them with a chemotherapy molecule designed to act selectively.
A tumour “avatar” to study and fight paediatric osteosarcoma
The most common bone cancer in children will be recreated in the laboratory and implanted into a fertilised egg. The project, developed by the University of Bologna’s Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology, is supported by the Italian Association for Cancer Research (Fondazione AIRC).
ROAR, the first “made in Italy” rotating nanomotor, is unveiled: powered by light and capable of running in reverse
Designed, built and tested by a research group at the University of Bologna, it is the only nanomotor in the world able to reverse its direction of rotation simply by changing the colour of the light source that powers it.
