Gifts, Giveaways, Exchanges

The Library also increases its bibliographic holdings through acquisitions by gift/giveaway or exchange, from private individuals or other institutions

Gift proposals from private individuals should be submitted to the Library by means of letters of intent (see forms in the Attachments box).

Libraries or other institutions may submit their proposals for giveaways or document exchanges directly to the contacts of the Library (see Contacts box).

For further details on how to submit offers, on the criteria and process of acceptance, inventorying and cataloguing, see the attached Guidelines.

The materials acquired via these methods become part of the Library's holdings, generally without any processing constraints (any specific cases will be examined and agreed on a case-by-case basis), and is subject to the Library's ordinary management (inventorying, cataloguing, placing, discarding, etc.).

As a rule, the Library does not accept:

- materials not consistent with the Library's collections;
- publications already held by the Library;
- school textbooks;
- general encyclopaedias;
- magazine issues (unless they complement collections already held), or in any case  incomplete magazine collections;
- photocopied documents and self-produced material;
- material in poor conditions.
