Historical-biographical profile: Massimo Trentini was born on 18 March 1950. A zoologist and biologist, for over 30 years, as from 1977, he taught and performed research in the Faculty of Veterinary Medical Sciences of the University of Bologna, in 2001 becoming Degree Programme Director in Aquaculture and Fish Pathology (today known as Aquaculture and Fish Production Hygiene) in Cesenatico. An expert in reproductive biology and cytogenetics of marine and freshwater crustaceans and molluscs, for decades he also worked in the fields of entomology, parasitology, and the reproduction and genetic characterisation of fish populations. He died in 28 September 2011.
