Learning outcomes

The Course provides theoretical, analytical and conceptual tools to understand, interpret and explain the connections between political and economic processes in international politics. In particular, it aims to helping students achieve: 1). a good knowledge of mainstream approaches; 2). a wide knowledge of its fields of enquiry (trade, investments, monetary policy, finance, multinational corporations, development approaches; and 3). a good capacity to understand the complexities faced by policy-makers when making decisions in the cotemporary global economic scenario

Course contents

The first part of the Course offers an in-depth overview of main theoretical approaches in the International/Global Poltical Economy literature. The second part develops into seminaries which are occasions to discuss further arguments within the field as  well as to reflect over and analyse current debates and challenges in IPE. Students are required to read the material assigned before Classes especially during the second part of the Course (Seminrs).

- institutionalism and cooperation

- domestic policies determinants

- the international monetary system

- the International trade system

- development

- globalization

The first part is composed of 16 hours; the second of 12 hours. During the second part two groups are formed and class activities will be divided between Prof. Ceccorulli (Group 1) and Prof.  Agostinis (group 2).

 

Guest Lecturers could be invited to talk of specific issues.
