Certificates and self-certifications for first-cycle degree programmes, second cycle/two-year master's degrees, PhD courses, specialisation courses, master's and higher education courses

A certificate is a declaration made by a party (entity or individual) authorised to issue it.

It can be used to certify one's status to Italian private entities, foreign public and private entities, Italian Embassies and Consulates abroad and Police Headquarters (Questura) for the purposes of applying for or renewing a residence permit.

One or more revenue stamps must be affixed to the certificates in accordance with the regulations in force, with the exception of cases where the exemption [.pdf 114 KB] is envisaged.

A self-certification, or declaration in lieu, is a declaration replacing certain administrative certifications, made and signed by the person concerned. 

Self-certification:

• must be used to certify one’s status to Italian public administrations and public service providers;
• cannot be used:
• with the Italian consular authorities abroad to apply for or renew an entry visa to Italy;
• with the Questura for applying for or renewing a residence permit, since this requires, instead, a certificate of enrolment in a degree programme, doctorate or specialisation school.

Certificates available online

Log in to Studenti Online with your Username and password (nome.cognome@studio.unibo.it), or with a SPID or CIE, to independently download transcripts for examinations taken and certificates for qualifications obtained. The certificates are digitally signed by the University, which guarantees their authenticity and integrity.

Check in Studenti Online which certificates are available depending on your status and the system of your course of study.

Certificates not available online

You can request them from your Student Administration Office by filling in the certificate request form [.pdf 341 KB]. On the form you have to indicate the reason for the request and whether a revenue stamp is exempt.

You can submit the form to the Student Administration Office via the Virtual Help Desks or in person. Alternatively, you may delegate someone to go on your behalf; they will need to present a written authorisation (no stamp duty required) signed by you, a photocopy of your ID, the completed form, and the revenue stamp if required.
If you need to pay the revenue stamp virtually, please ask the Student Administration Office for instructions.

Log in to Studenti Online with your Username and password (nome.cognome@studio.unibo.it), or with a SPID or CIE, and print out the pre-filled form for the self-certification of your university study data by clicking on "Certificates and Self-certifications".

For degree programmes under the reformed system (Ministerial Decrees 509/99 and 270/04), the University of Bologna issues a Diploma Supplement for each degree, indicating details of the curriculum, drafted in accordance with the templates adopted by European countries.

If you have a degree which envisages a Diploma Supplement, go to Studenti Online with your Username and password (nome.cognome@studio.unibo.it), or with a SPID or CIE, and click on “Diploma Supplement”.

In cases where this is not possible (such as in the case of a course with multiple titles, or if you have already downloaded the Diploma Supplement a first time), you can request its issue by contacting the Student Administration Office of your degree course.

Certificates and online

Log in to Studenti Online with your Username and password (name.surname@studio.unibo.it) and download independently the certificates in Italian and English, and the pre-filled self-certification forms confirming:

• enrolment in a PhD programme;
• award of your qualification
• declaration for tax purposes of the tuition fees paid each calendar year.

The certificates produced in this way are without a handwritten signature, replaced by the name of the Manager of the Education and PhD Programme Division and are valid for all legal purposes.

Certificates not available online

You can request them by e-mail at aform.udottricerca@unibo.it by filling in the request form [.pdf 257 KB] and enclosing a scan of the €16 revenue stamp, if required, which will be given to AFORM - Education and PhD Programme Division and affixed on the certificate at the time of collection.

You can pick up the certificate in person at AFORM - Education and PhD Programme Division, by appointment to be requested by e-mail to aform.udottricerca@unibo.it or delegate a person who will need to have a written mandate and a copy of your ID Card.

If you wish to receive a copy of the certificate by email, you must send AFORM - Education and PhD Programme Division, by post or by hand delivery, a revenue stamp that will be affixed to the certificate.

Online Self-certifications

Log in to Studenti Online with your Username and password (nome.cognome@studio.unibo.it), or with a SPID or CIE, and print out the pre-filled form for the self-certification of your university study data through the Self-certification Online service.

Online certificates

Log in to Studenti Online with your Username and password (nome.cognome@studio.unibo.it) to independently download transcripts for examinations taken and certificates for qualifications obtained. The certificates are digitally signed by the University, which guarantees their authenticity and integrity. The digital stamp is a two-dimensional code, displayed as a grey band, that contains the entire document.

Below are the types of certificate available:

• students enrolled in Schools of the Medical Division and Schools of the Cultural Heritage, Psychological, Veterinary, Health and Legal Division
• enrolment with exams and subjects
• enrolment with exams and marks
• enrolment with exams, marks and dates
• declaration for tax purposes
• students who have successfully completed a specialisation in Schools of the Medical Division and Schools of the Cultural Heritage, Psychological, Veterinary, Health and Legal Division
• specialisation
• specialisation with enrolments
• specialisation with exams passed, dates and marks
• declaration for tax purposes

Certificates not available online

You can request them:

• for specialisation schools in the Medical Division to Medical Area Services Division - Medical Careers Office by e-mail sam.carrieremfs@unibo.it using your institutional University mailbox (nome.cognome@studio.unibo.it)
• for specialisation schools in theCultural Heritage, Psychological, Veterinary, Health and Legal Areas to AFORM - Education and PhD Programme Division, Non-Medical Area Specialisation Schools and State Exams Office via e-mail aform.specializzazioninonmediche@unibo.it using your institutional University mailbox (nome.cognome@studio.unibo.it) by filling in the form (in Italian) [.pdf 272 KB] in which you must indicate the reason for the request and the need, if required, for a revenue stamp

You can:

• deliver the form in person or delegate a third party who will have to show a written mandate (no stamp duty required) signed by you, a photocopy of your valid ID and the filled-in form

or

• send the form to the Student Administration Office via email, using your University email account (name.surname@studio.unibo.it). If you use your personal email account, you must attach a copy of a valid ID
