B9644 - TERRITORI METROPOLITANI

Academic Year 2025/2026

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Cesena
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Architecture (cod. 9265)

Learning outcomes

The module provides students with both cultural and practical tools to engage with urban and territorial-scale projects, with a particular focus on understanding the complexity of places. The aim of the module is to comprehend the theoretical and historical context of a major city, grasp its layers, and analyze its social and environmental issues. By the end of the module, students will be able to develop a forward-looking framework for re-establishing new synergistic co-evolution processes between economy, architecture, and territory.

Course contents

In the first part of the module, we will examine the historical processes that shaped the formation of metropolises, as well as recent transformations linked to globalization, mobility, and ecological crises, alongside emerging forms of governance and urban planning. Particular attention will be given to issues of segregation, access to the city, and both social and environmental sustainability.

In the second part, students will be invited to carry out an exercise aimed at making visible the interconnections between these processes. This exercise will be based on the study trip conducted during the Berlin study trip.

Teaching methods

The module is divided into three parts: lectures, the reading of a selected text from the bibliography followed by an in-class discussion, and a group work related to the theme.

Assessment methods

Students will work in groups to develop a territorial section, in A1 horizontal format, with the aim of revealing the visible and invisible interrelations of a site visited during the study trip to Berlin. Each work should construct a visual narrative capable of conveying the systemic, material, and immaterial complexity of the observed territory.

Teaching tools

The seminar slides contain mainly images, so attendance and the use of notes is strongly recommended.
