Learning outcomes

The student will understand the complexity of the different level of training organization: from periodization to programming. All the knowledge will be supported by scintific evidences to promote the effectiveness and the individualization of the training contents. The student will be able to plan short, medium and long term training plans, taking into consideration the athlete's level, sex and age. In addition the course will cover the management of the recovery responses following training.

Course contents

-Program, plan and periodization, vertical and horizontal design of the training plan

-The origin of periodization, Kotov and training at the beginning of the 20th century

-Matveyev 1960, politics, ideology, physiology and a new science

-Verkhoshansky, breakthrough of a pioneer

-1949-1990 training periodization in East Germany

-Daily Undulating periodized models and mixed session strategies 

-Monitoring periodized training plans

-Periodization strategies for endurance athletes 

-Non conventional resistance training: velocity based training, blood flow restriction,variable resistance training

-Periodization and program design for powerlifting

-The evaluation of the muscle with ultrasound, a performance perspective

-Understanding and management of the recovery process following resistance exercise

-Isometric resistance exercise, training and recovery

-Adaptations and periodization if the women athlete

-Hormones and resistance training, an updated perspective, influence of PED (performance enhancing drugs)

-Training for power, agility and sprint
