Learning outcomes
By the end of this course students are able to: 1. Acquire foundational Italian language skills, including greetings, common phrases, and basic vocabulary, enabling simple conversational exchanges. 2. Demonstrate an understanding of cultural etiquette and customs in Italy, fostering respectful and informed interactions in cross-cultural settings 3. Identify key elements of Italian culture and articulate their significance within a global context 4. Recognize the specificities of the italian economic environment 5. Develop an appreciation for Italy’s contributions to fields such as art, music, literature, and architecture and their enduring impact on world culture
Course contents
The seminar is structured according to the following activities:
- study of Italian grammar and language, including punctuation, verbs, vocabulary, and a selection of specific vocabulary.
- analysis of authentic Italian texts, also in support of exam preparation.
- production and extensive study of spoken Italian (comprehension and production) with language exercises;
- commentary and analysis of various types of printed and multimedia texts.

Teaching methods
Readings and analysis of various texts, focusing mainly on language and grammar.
Classroom discussions on a variety of topics.
Guided oral presentation exercises.
Lectures and and team work.
If possible, one field trip to Bologna will be organized to explore local examples of Italian culture.

Reading comprehension with a multiple-choise cloze.
