Learning outcomes

In line with the EU Biodiversity Strategy, BESTNATURE Erasmus+ project aims to train skilled students in biodiversity conservation and restoration. The practical Module B is a Field Week in the protected areas of partner countries.

Course contents

Module B is made by the BESTNATURE Fields Week (BFW), which is are implemented to trach students to apply field survey and monitoring techniques for developing cross-curricular and interdisciplinary practical knowledge. Each year the field week is taking place within a major european protcted area (for 2025 it will be from Sept 19 to 24 in the Kalkalpen and Gesäuse National Parks, in Austria).

Readings/Bibliography

The course is based on a practical activity of biodiversity sampling and monitoring in the field. The support material will be provided during the field week.

Teaching methods

This activity includes practical exercises on ecology, zoology, botany, conservation biology and other field based disciplines, within a multidisciplinary context. Students will also learn to develop and comment on data visualisations and communicate efficiently beyond the academy, including infographics, maps, short talks, podcast, videos, and plain-language summaries.

Assessment methods

At the end of the field activity each student will prepare a report on the experience that has done in the field activity, and this report will be assessed by a the panel of professors taking part to the activity.
