40130 - AFPG - Modelling Lab-based Course I

Academic Year 2025/2026

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Cesena
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Architecture (cod. 6729)

Learning outcomes

Basic course aimed at the conception, design and construction of architectural models. The aim of the course is to assimilate the theoric information through practical exercises that involve the testing of mainly manual techniques.

Course contents

The course aims to provide students with the basic skills needed to choose independently methods and technologies for the design and construction of architectural models.

The course is divided into a series of lessons in which will be illustrated some types of architectural model and their characteristics in terms of materials, techniques, technologies and tools used to create them, which can be tested in the practical guided exercises.

The course objective is to understand the value of the model as a tool for analysis and verification during the design process and for the communication of the project.

Teaching methods

Lectures and participation in a practical workshop, aimed at designing and creating one or more architectural models.

The workshop requires access to the Architectural Modeling Laboratory (LaMo), and therefore requires certificates of completed safety training:

General training: Module 1;

Specific medium-risk training: Module 2 + Module 3.

Assessment methods

The course does not provide a grade, but rather a pass mark. To obtain this pass, students must attend the lecture series and complete the proposed workshop exercise: the creation of an architectural model using manual techniques and machine tools.

The exam will consist of the presentation of the work produced..

Students with learning disabilities (LD) or temporary or permanent disabilities are advised to contact the relevant University office promptly at (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/it). The office will propose any adaptations, which must be submitted to the instructor for approval 15 days in advance, who will evaluate their suitability, also taking into account the course's learning objectives.

Teaching tools

For each lesson, the relative didactic material and the indications necessary for the progress of the exercise will be made available to the students.

It is foreseen the use of computer supports and equipment provided by the Degree Course and the Architectural Models Laboratory.
