Learning outcomes
The student knows the principles of language service provision in the field of accessibility of audiovisual media; s/he is able to implement the main language service provision standards in professional settings.
Course contents
This course moves between professional practice and theoretical reflection. It aims to offer a vision of accessibility that transcends pure linguistic dimensions, covering also professional and socio-cultural aspects. The module will be structured in 2 parts which will deal with the fundamental forms of accessibility for the small and the big screen: subtitling for the hard of hearing and audiodescription.
Readings/Bibliography
The readings will be provided during the course.
Teaching methods
This course module requires a 70% student attendance. The lesson is conceived as a laboratory where we will carry out activities of analysis, documentation, subtitling/audiodescription, proofreading and commentary. An active participation of all students in the proposed exercises is required.
Assessment methods
The student will hold a three-hour final exam which will test student's acquisition of methods and techniques. The test consists of subtitling for the hard of hearing and audiodescribing a clip in line with those developed during the course.

Students with specific learning difficulties (SpLD) or with disabilities that can affect their ability to attend courses are invited to contact the University service for students with disabilities and SLD at the earliest opportunity -- ideally before the start of the course: https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en/for-students. The University service will suggest possible adjustments to the course work and/or exam, which must then be submitted to the course leader so they can assess their feasibility, in line with the learning objectives of the course. Please note that adjustments to the exam must be requested at least two weeks in advance.
