Learning outcomes
At the end of the module, the student will possess the knowledge related to taking charge of the person/family in the context of the priority health problems of the surgical area. It identifies, plans and evaluates nursing care interventions and collaborates with other professionals in diagnostic-therapeutic-care pathways.
Course contents
Principles of safety in the operating room and in the surgical field, PDTA, ERAS protocol.
Management of the surgical patient in all phases of care:
- Preoperative nursing care (pre-admission analysis, preoperative assessment, education and preparation for surgery, informed consent, documentation, anxiety management, etc.);
- Intraoperative nursing care (roles, functions and responsibilities of the surgical team, the intraoperative environment, types of anesthesia and sedation, risk management, etc.);
- Postoperative nursing care (drainage management, medication management, pain management, infection management, "TIPO" hospitalization, patient monitoring, etc.).
- Care planning of cases related to:
Abdominal surgery,
neck-larynx surgery,
thoracic surgery,
breast surgery,
vascular surgery,
urological surgery,

Interactive lectures with problem-based method; case discussion.
Assessment methods
The assessment of learning will be carried out by means of an oral exam.
The purpose of the oral examination is to assess the student's ability to apply their knowledge and to make the necessary logical-deductive connections.
Grading scale:
Preparation on a very limited number of topics covered in the course and analytical ability that emerges only with the help of the teacher, expression in overall correct language → 18-19;
Preparation on a limited number of topics covered in the course and autonomous analytical ability only on purely functional issues, expression in correct language → 20-24;
Preparation on a broad range of topics covered in the course, ability to make independent critical analysis choices, mastery of specific terminology → 25-29.
