17509 - MATERIALI INORGANICI

Academic Year 2025/2026

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Materials Science (cod. 5940)

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to correlate the structure of inorganic materials with their chemical and physical properties. In particular, they will acquire knowledge of specific categories of materials such as hydrides, borides, carbides, nitrides, and oxides. They will also gain an understanding of their general synthesis methods and some of their significant and innovative applications, as well as the potential environmental impacts of their use.

Course contents

Preparation methods of nanostructured inorganic materials.

Doping with photo- and electroactive species.

Application of inorganic materials in the energy sector as catalysts, electrodes, or membranes.

Laboratory: preparation and characterization of two photo- and electroactive nanostructured oxides.

Teaching methods

Lectures are delivered face-to-face and use both slides (as visual aids) and a whiteboard (traditional or electronic) for demonstrations and examples.

Laboratories include wet-lab activities (synthesis using sol-gel methods) and analysis using photochemical characterization instruments.

Assessment methods

Students with learning disorders and\or temporary or permanent disabilities: please, contact the office responsible (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en/for-students ) as soon as possible so that they can propose acceptable adjustments. The request for adaptation must be submitted in advance (15 days before the exam date) to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of the adjustments, taking into account the teaching objectives.

Teaching tools

Blackboard (traditional or electronic) and video projector.
