Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the students are familiar with the linguistic and pragmatic aspects of the German language; they are able to understand, analyze and produce oral discourse and written texts on a wide range of topics in the German language, used in different spheres of modern society. They are able to handle complex communicative situations by expressing themselves spontaneously and demonstrating good pragmatic skills of communication in the German language. The skills achieved at the end of the second year are approximately at the B2+ level of the CEFR.

Course contents

Comprehension and production of oral texts:

Focus on debates and discussions on specific topics of individual and current social interest, with research into terminology and related content. Emphasis on oral expression and presentation.

Production of written texts of an argumentative nature, such as debates/discussions.

Common and idiomatic expressions for expressing opinions or discussing a specific topic.

Teaching methods

The teaching process is dynamic/interactive and requires preparation and active participation as well as the writing of written papers on the topics covered.

Classes are held in person; 70% attendance is compulsory.

Assessment methods

The exam includes a written part in the form of a personal opinion with presentation, argument, counter-argument and conclusion, followed by an oral part in the form of a short debate, again taking up a topic previously covered in class.

The oral exam will account for two-thirds of the final mark.
