Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student has a deeper knowledge of the metalanguage and of various aspects of a descriptive-analytical model of the Spanish language and is competent in all communication skills at least at level B2 of the parameters set by the Council of Europe.

Annual Course – Group G-O

OBJECTIVES

The primary objective of the course is to develop independent and flexible linguistic competence, enabling students to:

  • understand and produce complex texts, argue coherently and fluently, and use language critically and appropriately for the register and communicative situation.
  • interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that allows for natural interaction with native speakers.
  • produce clear and detailed texts on a wide range of topics, expressing a point of view on a current issue, and highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

Particular attention will be paid to the appropriate use of morpho-syntactic structures, expanding vocabulary, and intercultural reflection.

Erasmus+ Students - Incoming


Erasmus students from Spanish universities (Spanish Philology, Romansh Philology, and Teaching) will be admitted to this course only if their Learning Agreement includes the study of SYNTAX or SEMANTICS in Spanish.

ERASMUS students should contact the Exercises instructor (Delia Cócera - Group G-O) and the Linguistics professor (Prof. Ana Pano Alamán) within the first weeks of the course to determine whether they are eligible to attend the course and to obtain guidance on the required language level, syllabus, and exam procedures for both parts.

Students who have not contacted the instructors at least three months before the exam will not be admitted to the Exercises and Linguistics exams.

Readings/Bibliography

Teaching materials will include:

  • required texts indicated at the beginning of the course;
  • authentic materials (newspaper articles, podcasts, videos, interviews, etc.);
  • online exercises and digital tools for independent learning.


N.B.: Compulsory texts and other materials (dossiers, audio, video, etc.) used for lectures and for the written and oral exams will be indicated in the specific Exercises syllabus at the beginning of the course.

Teaching methods

Teaching methods will be geared toward developing advanced communication skills:

  • exercises aimed at developing the four skills (oral and written comprehension and production), with an emphasis on textual coherence and cohesion;
  • analysis and production of authentic and complex texts (articles, short essays, reviews, interviews, etc.);
  • listening and viewing activities for authentic audiovisual materials;
  • simulations of real-life communication situations and debates;
  • linguistic reflection on advanced structures and linguistic register;
  • self-correction and error analysis to encourage independent study.

Assessment methods

The final assessment will consist of a written test and an oral exam. To access the oral exam, students must pass the written exam with a score of at least 18/30. The final grade will be the average of the two scores.

WRITTEN EXAM

The written exam will include:

  • closed-ended and open-ended exercises to assess morphosyntactic, lexical, and cultural skills at a B2 level;
  • written production of argumentative, descriptive, or narrative texts;
  • reading comprehension of authentic and complex texts;
  • translation and paraphrasing exercises.

ORAL EXAM

The oral exam will consist of a written interview that will assess:

  • the ability to express oneself fluently and spontaneously;
  • the ability to argue and support opinions;
  • listening comprehension of complex texts;
  • knowledge of the linguistic and cultural content covered during the course.

N.B. The use of dictionaries is not permitted during the exams.
