Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student knows the nursing methodology to respond to the care problems of the individual/family/community and the preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative nursing activities relevant to nursing care.

Course contents

M. Gordon's functional models and L.J. Carpenito's theory:

· activity and exercise (personal care, mobility and body mechanics, oxygenation and respiratory and cardiovascular function);

· elimination (urinary and intestinal)

· nutrition and metabolism

· rest and sleep

· health perception and management

· cognitive-perceptive (sensory perception, cognitive processes);

· self-perception and self-concept

· coping and stress management

For each functional model, the following are discussed:

· influencing factors, characteristics, and alterations;

· useful data for targeted assessment;

· nursing diagnoses according to the NANDA taxonomy and collaborative problems;

· care objectives;

· educational, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative interventions that can be planned;

· Nursing techniques applicable to various problems (hygiene care, posture and mobilization, prevention and treatment of immobility-related injuries and pressure sores, vital signs measurement and oxygen therapy management, assisted cough, communication, orientation, and assistance techniques)
