Learning outcomes
At the end of the seminar (an activity closely related to the objectives of the degree course) the student acquires specific skills and notions to deal with linguistic and/or philological and/or literary and/or historical and/or artistic themes and problems.
Course contents
The aim of the seminar, held by Hanna Mentkovska (contacts and office hours: https://www.unibo.it/sitoweb/ganna.mentkovska2), is to deepen the knowledge of the main cultural and historical aspects of Ukraine through literature, visual arts, and folklore, within the broader historical and cultural context of the Slavic and European world.
Students will also acquire basic notions of the Ukrainian language, learning the alphabet and some expressions of courtesy and everyday use.

- Historical evolution of Ukraine: from its origins to 1900, and from 1900 to 2022
- Basic notions of the Ukrainian language and its historical roots
- Ukrainian ethnography, folklore, and popular traditions
- Historical relations between Ukraine and Europe
- A brief overview of Ukrainian visual arts
- Ukrainian literature: from Kyivan Rus’ to the nineteenth century; from I. Kotljarevs’kyj and T. Shevchenko to Serhij Zhadan and contemporary authors
