Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will have reached an upper-intermediate level of English proficiency (B2-C1 level CEFR), with a focus on reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills in academic and professional contexts relevant to their field of study (anthropology, religions, Eastern civilizations).
Course contents
• Reading and discussion of academic, journalistic, and informative texts related to anthropology, religions, and Eastern civilizations, with a focus on vocabulary, syntax, and rhetorical structures.
• Listening comprehension of audiovisual content related to the discipline.
• Oral activities to develop communication, argumentation, and teamwork skills in international contexts.
• Written production (abstracts, short essays, open answers), focusing on coherence, cohesion, and register.
• Guided revision of relevant grammar structures and language functions.
Readings/Bibliography
Materials will be provided by the lecturer and uploaded to virtuale.unibo.it. There is no distinction between attending and non-attending students.

Assessment methods
The final written exam will assess vocabulary, grammar, reading, and listening comprehension.
Structure and duration: the final exam, written (multiple-choice test), includes:
1. Grammar and vocabulary:
- 10 sentences to complete (4-option multiple choice) (1 pt x 10 items)
- 3 short texts to complete (4-option multiple choice) (1 pt x 6 items)
- 1 text with 8 open fill-in-the-blank items (1 pt x 8 items)
2. Listening comprehension:
- 1 monologue with 3 multiple-choice questions (4 options) (1 pt x 3 items)
- 1 monologue with a short transcript to complete (5 open blanks) (1 pt x 5 items)
- 1 dialogue with 6 multiple-choice questions (4 options) (2 pts x 6 items)
3. Reading comprehension:
- 1 text with 6 multiple-choice questions (1 pt x 6 items)
- 4 short texts with 10 multiple-choice questions (1 pt x 10 items)
Time allowed: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Passing score: 36/60 correct answers (60%)
Final grade: expressed in /30ths
There is no distinction between attending and non-attending students.

Students who pass the exam have 48 hours from the publication of the results to decline their grade by sending an email to the instructor.
