Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student: - knows the fundamental and constituent elements of social service and is able to delve into its historical-cultural, theoretical and methodological aspects; - possesses methodological knowledge relating to the carrying out of intervention and social action activities; - is able to build gradual connections and analyze the methodological structure that guides social action; - is able to apply basic knowledge on the organization of social services.

Course contents

The course intends to accompany students in learning the aspects characterizing the profession of social worker, focusing on the working methods and tools used daily, highlighting difficulties and risks frequently faced by professionals. The professional tools and related application methodologies will be analysed, with particular attention to: interview, home visit, social file, multidisciplinary team, supervision and social mediation, addressing skills at stake, correct and not recommended behaviours, restitution and feedback techniques, strategies to manage complex or difficult situations.

Teaching methods

During the course, theoretical lessons, held by the teacher, will be alternated with in-depth seminars or sharing of professional experiences held by external guests.

Assessment methods

The exam includes a final oral test. The objective is to verify whether the student has learned the contents of the texts and whether he has achieved a global and organic vision of the topics covered. The student must not mnemonically report what he has read in the texts but through a personal linguistic style, and must be able to demonstrate that the topic has been internalized and elaborated. Must demonstrate expressive mastery and use of specific language and professionally correct terms.
