Course contents

Preparatory and integrative workshop for participation in the archaeological excavations offered in the 2024/2025 Academic Year.

The archaeology workshop includes classroom activities (2 CFU per workshop, equivalent to 50 hours), preparatory to excavation, and field activities (4 CFU for 2 weeks of excavation) in one of the archaeological sites organized by the Department.

Classroom lessons are taught by professors and laboratory technicians and cover all aspects of archaeological excavation, from preliminary activities (geophysical surveys and remote sensing), to excavation and surveying techniques, to the study of materials and artifacts.

The call for applications and the schedule will be published shortly. Attendance is mandatory.

At the end of the workshop, students will receive a certificate for the cumulative recording of CFU credits.

Undergraduate Students: Students in the Bachelor's Degree in Humanities (Classical curriculum) or the Bachelor's Degree in History interested in attending the Archaeological Documentation Workshop can include the following activity in their study plan: 27276 - Workshop (1) Arch. (6 CFU), of which the Archaeological Documentation Workshop is an integral part and allows for the acquisition of 2 CFU. The faculty responsible for recording CFU credits, based on the certificates obtained, are Prof. Isabella Baldini for the Bachelor's Degree in Humanities and Prof. Elisabetta Govi for the Bachelor's Degree in History.

IMPORTANT: Students are informed that to obtain the 6 CFU credits required by the study plan for activity 27276 - Workshop (1) Arch., it is necessary to combine attendance at the Archaeological Documentation Workshop (2 CFU) with participation in archaeological excavation activities (2 weeks of excavation = 4 CFU), chosen based on the educational offerings of the 2024-2025 Academic Year.

The excavation activity, corresponding to a two-week shift, can be carried out in one of the archaeological sites chosen by the student based on their specific interest (prehistory, classical area, late antiquity and medieval, or oriental studies). To participate in the excavation, an application must be submitted when the excavation notices are published on the department's archaeology section website.

Given the types of activities and teaching methods adopted, attendance at this training activity requires all students to complete Modules 1 and 2 in e-learning mode [https://www.unibo.it/it/servizi-e-opportunita/salute-e-assistenza/salute-e-sicurezza/sicurezza-e-salute-nei-luoghi-di-studio-e-tirocinio] and to participate in Module 3 of specific training on safety and health in study places. Information on the dates and methods of attendance for Module 3 can be found in the relevant section of the study course website.
