Full professor at the University of Bologna, she conducts her research in Late Antique and Byzantine Archaeology. She is the director of the archaeological missions in
Mitropolis (Crete), Chiaramonte Gulfi (RG) e Piazza Armerina (EN). Her areas of research interest are the
momumental and decorative development of Late Antique and Byzantine cities and the social representative systems. Engaged in national and international research projects, she collaborates with several European Institutes. She is director of CISEM https://centri.unibo.it/cisem/it and of Ktisis, Journal of Late Antique Housing. Author of numerous publications, she has received several awards and
recognition from prestigious centers and institutes (Accademia
dei Lincei, Dumbarton Oaks, Onassis Foundation).In 2017, she received funding from the grant CEF-TC-2016-3 Connecting Europe Facility 2014-2020 with the project
BYZART - Byzantine Art and Archeology Thematic Channel project, with the role of coordinator and she is co-winner of the Gerda Henkel Foundation research grant in 2020
