Professor at the University of Bologna, she conducts her research in Late Antique and Byzantine Archaeology. She is the director of archaeological missions in
Mitropolis (Crete), Chiaramonte Gulfi (RG) e Piazza Armerina (EN). Her areas of research interest are the
momumental and decorative development of Late Antique and Byzantine cities and the social representative systems. Engaged in national and international research projects, she collaborates with several European Institutes. She is director of Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni archeologici, CISEM https://centri.unibo.it/cisem/it and Ktisis, Journal of Late Antique Housing. Author of numerous publications, she has received several awards from prestigious centers and institutes (Accademia
dei Lincei, Dumbarton Oaks, Onassis Foundation).In 2017, she received funding from the grant CEF-TC-2016-3 Connecting Europe
Facility 2014-2020 with the project
BYZART with the role of coordinator. She is co-winner of the Gerda Henkel Foundation research grant in 2020 and since 2024 is the reference for a Marie Curie global fellowship
