Learning outcomes
The course aims to take up the knowledge and skills possessed by the trainees and consolidate them for the purpose of sound theoretical and practical preparation. It will focus, on the one hand, on communicative competence in the foreign language and, on the other hand, on 'knowledge' of the language and its development. 'Knowledge' of language, like that of culture and literature, is an important component of modern foreign language teaching. In addition, the trainees will learn, among other things, how to select and didactically support teaching and learning aids for their class, how to adapt additional materials for their lessons, and how to enrich lessons through the use of digital media.
Course contents
The course program is structured according to different “knowledge categories” (Wissenskategorien): diskursive Landeskunde, Literatur, Zeitgeschichte, Kultur (discursive regional studies, literature, contemporary history, culture). It places, in addition, emphasis on functional communication skills, particularly oral skills and language skills. On this basis, greater emphasis will be placed on textual and media skills, knowledge of, among other topics, such as (1) Sprachwandel and -kritik, (2) Standardvarietäten des Deutschen, (3) Gesprochene Sprache im DaF-Unterricht, (4) linguistic landscape, etc., and reflection on language and language use. Learners should be able to cope with oral and written tasks that require explanations, reasoned comments and creative projects.
