Learning outcomes

The workshop aims to provide students with soft skills. The goal is to advance students in their skills through practical exercises. The workshop explores the topic related to comparative methodology and has a twofold objective: to make students understand what it means to do research by adopting a comparative method; and to enhance the student's ability to develop a research design. The main topics addressed will be as follows: - defining comparison - what to compare: the units of analysis - the dimensions of comparison: space and time - key mechanisms - the comparative method in welfare research

Teaching methods

Lectures will be alternated with group discussions, case studies, aimed at deepening the topics covered in class. Presentations will be given by students.

Assessment methods

A final paper. Its length and the topic will be discussed and shared with the lecturer

Videos, essays and articles not included in the texts, but significant for the topics covered in class.

Slides and other teaching materials will be available to the students in electronic format on Virtuale platform. Username and password are reserved for students enrolled at the University of Bologna.
