Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the student has acquired deep knowledge on the principal diagnostic procedures for the etiological diagnosis of infectious diseases and has developed capacities for the critical evaluation and interpretation of the laboratory results.

Course contents

Microbiology of upper and lower respiratory tract infections
 
Microbiology of infections of the digestive system

Microbiology of cardiovascular infections, and diagnostic utility of blood culture

Microbiology of the central nervous system infections

Microbiology of infections of skin, muscle, bone and joints

Microbiology of the urinary tract infections and anogenital infections
 
Diagnosis of maternal, fetal and newborn infections

Microbiology of arthropod-borne infections

Teaching methods

Lectures for a total of 16 hours (2CFU)

Assessment methods

The examination will evaluate whether the student has mastered the above listed skills and has reached the teaching objectives.

The final evaluation of the Integrated Course of Laboratory Medicine will consist of an oral examination based on specific questions about Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry.
