Course contents

The course is titled "Representations of body, gender and sexuality in contemporary Italy". The course is aimed at giving critical tools for an analysis of body, gender, and sexuality in contemporary Italy through an anthropological and intersectional approach. During the course the various processes of naturalization - at the core of anthropological thought- will be addressed through gender and difference, drawing on diverse cases from ethnographic literature, media, and scientific representations. The course will focus on gender representations and on its twine with race and class, in search of dominant features in the Italian context. Specifically the gendered social polarization between agent-subject and victim-subject will be explored.
