Learning outcomes

At the end of the lessons the student knows: the cultural roots and the technical characters which identifie Modern and Contemporary Age on the side of legal history. The general pattern will be exemplified through two realities concerning civil and criminal law.

Course contents

The Age of late ius commune; innovations of Ancien Regime; French Revolution and Napoleon; the society of the codes and the constitutions; legal science in Europe between XVI-XX cent.; Italy from the Restaurazione to the Fascism.

Teaching methods

The lessons last the all year. First semester is leaded by prof. Nicoletta Sarti, the second by prof. Marco Cavina

Assessment methods

The examination is oral. An optional oral test at the end of the first semester, a written test and an optional short dissertation at the end of the second semester are reserved to students attending the course.

The thesis

The thesis, intended for a detailed study of institutes, people and precise moments from juridical modern and contemporary history, will be assigned to those students who show a clear interest in the historical-juridical educational path.

Requests from those students who decline to dedicate the necessary time to make thesis elaboration a constructive experience will not be accepted.
