Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will have a deep knowledge of some main public and private institutions of Greece, putting them in their right context through a critical vision of all the available sources (literary, documentary and iconographical ones). They will recognize the evolution and the functioning of the institutions under examination (with special reference to their social, political and historical context). They will use a technical vocabulary concerning these topics.
Course contents
Main political and religious institutions of archaic and classical Greece. The course will focus on Athens, as represented in the plutarchean Lives.
